  • What are the benefits of in-home physical therapy for seniors?
In-home physical therapy offers numerous benefits for seniors, including: Convenience and Comfort: Seniors receive therapy in the comfort of their home, reducing the stress and effort associated with traveling to a clinic. Personalized Care: Therapists can tailor exercises to the senior’s specific needs and home environment. Plus, there are no distractions from a crowded physical therapy clinic allowing us to provide you with 2 to 3 times more attention. Safety: Being treated at home allows therapists to address real-world challenges in the senior's daily living space, making it safer and more relevant. Increased Compliance: The convenience of in-home therapy can lead to better adherence to the prescribed exercise regimen. Teaching you your home exercise program right in your home is a game-changer. It works!!: Simply A Better Way!
  • How does in-home physical therapy differ from outpatient physical therapy?
An outpatient in the home physical therapy program such as the one with Achieva Rehabilitation is the same as a true outpatient clinic in every way except for the place of service. Insurance benefits are the same. Strategies and techniques are the same. But with in-home physical therapy, there are distinct advantages. Location: In-home therapy is conducted at the patient's residence, while outpatient therapy requires traveling to a clinic. Personalization: In-home therapy offers more personalized, one-on-one care. This allows you the opportunity to receive 2 to 3 times more attention as you are not competing for your therapist's time with other patients. Convenience: In-home therapy eliminates travel time and provides flexibility in scheduling. No Distractions: It's just you as the main focus. The star of the show and that's the most important factor in being better. We provide a unique service delivering outpatient Physical Therapy rehabilitation to patients in the comfort of their own home, office, or assisted living centers. This convenience allows less stress and great outcomes for patients. Patients will be seen for one-on-one treatment, for 60 minutes. Having provided PT in clincis in the past, we have found that patients get better outcomes with quicker results because of the fact that they get 100% of our undivided attention for their full visit. Oh, and the machines...if machines in a gym were a part of your life before you needed PT, then they should probably be a part of your life during physical therapy. But, we are going to assume that your life, no matter how active it was or is, did not involve gym equipment. We get amazing results from our creativity and your body weight and what you have in your home. Our past patients can tell you better...click HERE for their reviews. Questions to ask if you are considering another clinic: How much time you will spend with a physical therapist one-on-one? How much experience do the physical therapists in their clinic have? How much time you will spend on your own as your PT attends to other patients? How long will you have to wait before your session begins? Is there a one to one physical therapist to patient ratio, or are physical therapists’ time divided between multiple patients? How much total time will you have to invest to get ready, drive to the clinic, have your session at the crowded clinic, and then drive home? https://www.achievarehab.com/single-post/2016/02/20/theres-no-place-like-home
  • How do I find a reputable in-home physical therapist for my elderly parent?
To find a reputable in-home physical therapist: Ask for Recommendations: Consult with your parent’s primary care physician or healthcare provider for referrals. Check Qualifications: Ensure the therapist is licensed and has experience working with seniors. Read Reviews: Look for online reviews or testimonials from other patients. Contact Professional Organizations: Organizations like the American Physical Therapy Association can provide referrals to qualified therapists . Consider small companies that meet the qualifications above as they typically provide more detailed care and attention as they are not driven by a boss with a business degree but rather a therapist.
  • What types of exercises are commonly used in in-home physical therapy for seniors?
Common exercises include: Balance Exercises: Standing on one foot, heel-to-toe walk. Strength Training: Chair squats, leg lifts. Flexibility Exercises: Gentle stretching, range-of-motion exercises. Functional Exercises: Activities mimicking daily tasks, such as getting in and out of a chair .

Difficulty with daily activities - struggling with stairs, dressing, getting in and out of chairs or bed, maintaining a home, lacking confidence in being alone. Persistent pain or discomfort Post-surgery recovery needs - proactive planning for joint replacement surgery or recovering from fall related orthopedic surgeries or other types of procedures that weaken your system or require specific care to move towards recovery such as rotator cuff, knee arthroscopy, back surgery etc. Dizziness or Vertigo as it may have a profound impact on safety and comfort.

  • What should I expect during an in-home physical therapy session?
During an in-home physical therapy session with Achieva Rehabilitation, you can expect: Assessment: The therapist will assess the patient’s condition and home environment. This was particularly helpful for Mr. White, who needed modifications to his home setup to improve accessibility. Personalized Exercise Plan: Based on the assessment, the therapist will create a tailored exercise program. For instance, Mrs. Brown received a customized plan that focused on her specific mobility challenges and balance concerns. Hands-On Therapy: Manual therapy techniques may be used to address pain and improve mobility. Mr. Miller found significant relief from his chronic back pain through these techniques. Education: Guidance on how to perform exercises safely and effectively at home. Mrs. Davis appreciated the educational aspect, which empowered her to continue exercises on her own between sessions. You will also receive as much education as needed to understand your problems and our plan and this is ongoing as it's essential to a great outcome. A laid back environment: This allows us to develop a relationship of trust and builds the foundation for success.
  • Is in-home physical therapy covered by Medicare and other insurances?
Absolutely..your insurance benefits will be the same as it would have been if you chose to receive your physical therapy in a traditional clinic. But for the same reimbursement, you get 2 to 3 times more attention. Many of our clients have successfully used Medicare part B to cover their therapy sessions. Coverage by private insurance varies, so it’s important to check with your provider to understand the specifics of your plan. Achieva Rehabilitation staff can assist with navigating insurance questions to ensure you receive the benefits you are entitled to.

  • What equipment is needed for in-home physical therapy?
We get this question all the time as most people have preconceived notions that equipment in a traditional gym are necessary to rehabilitate. This may be true for younger, very active folks who may have had a sports injury but they can even be seen by a mobile therapist with great results as we choose to be creative and use our environment as our playground or gym. We will bring some equipment to your home that may support our program but none of it is necessary...our creativity and your home act as the gym really well. Please see our Google reviews to give you further confidence in that fact. Also, we wrote a blog to dispell the myth that equipment is necessary:
  • How can in-home physical therapy help with fall prevention for seniors?
In-home physical therapy helps prevent falls by: Improving Strength: Strengthening exercises target muscles crucial for stability. Mrs. Jackson, who had frequent falls, saw a remarkable improvement in her stability through targeted strength training. Enhancing Balance: Balance exercises reduce the risk of falling. Mr. Robinson’s balance improved significantly after incorporating balance exercises into his routine. Home Safety Assessment: Therapists identify and mitigate potential fall hazards in the home. Our team has successfully helped numerous clients like Mrs. Lee by suggesting simple modifications to their living spaces. Here are some tips to support your fall prevention strategies at home:
  • Are there any risks associated with in-home physical therapy for older adults?
While generally safe, risks include: Injury from exercises if not performed correctly: Our therapists ensure exercises are done safely and correctly to minimize this risk. Falls during balance exercises: Our therapists, such as those who helped Mrs. Collins, provide close supervision to prevent falls. Overexertion: Therapists monitor and adjust the intensity of exercises to suit the senior’s capabilities, as seen in our work with Mr. Brooks.
  • Can in-home physical therapy help with chronic pain management in seniors?
In-home physical therapy can help manage chronic pain by: Using Manual Therapy Techniques: To relieve pain and improve mobility. Implementing Personalized Exercise Programs: Tailored to the senior’s specific needs. Providing Education on Pain Management Strategies: Empowering seniors to manage their pain effectively.
  • What is the role of family members or caregivers during in-home physical therapy?
Family members or caregivers can: Provide Support: Assist with exercises and ensure safety. Mrs. Clark’s daughter played a crucial role in helping her mother with her exercises, making the sessions more effective. Encourage Compliance: Help the patient stay motivated and follow the therapy plan. Mr. Harris’ wife ensured he followed his routine, leading to faster recovery. Communicate with Therapists: Provide feedback and observations to the therapist. This collaboration was beneficial for Mrs. Thompson, whose daughter regularly updated the therapist on her progress.
  • What success stories or case studies exist for in-home physical therapy in seniors?
A study in Journal of Physical Therapy Science, researchers discovered that home-based physical therapy yielded results comparable to those of outpatient therapy services. Remarkably, the study demonstrated that in-home care exhibited even greater effectiveness over the long term. Unsurprisingly, adherence to the recommended treatment plan emerged as the primary determinant of the success of an in-home therapy regimen. Moreover, patients noted that in-home treatments proved more intensive and focused, attributed to the personalized attention they received when therapists worked directly with them in the comfort of their homes. The Benefits of Physical Therapy at Home: Convenience and Comfort: According to a study published in the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, patients receiving physical therapy at home reported higher levels of satisfaction and comfort, contributing to better adherence to treatment plans. Receiving physical therapy at home offers unparalleled convenience and comfort, contributing to a higher attendance rate and more effective rehabilitation. The familiar surroundings of one's home not only alleviate the stress associated with traveling to a clinic but also create a conducive environment for healing. The elimination of transportation barriers, mobility restrictions, and the personalized nature of in-home sessions make it more likely for patients to attend their scheduled appointments consistently. This increased attendance rate translates into a more consistent and impactful therapeutic experience, as patients can engage more fully in their rehabilitation journey within the comfort of their own homes. Enhanced Recovery: The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) states that patients often experience quicker recovery when receiving physical therapy in their home environment, as it allows for personalized and targeted exercises tailored to the specific challenges of daily living. The home environment offers a familiar and comfortable setting, promoting a sense of security and well-being that positively influences the healing process. The convenience of receiving therapy at home also encourages greater adherence to treatment plans, fostering a continuous and consistent approach to rehabilitation. By tailoring interventions to the unique needs of each patient within the comfort of their own space, home-based physical therapy becomes a key component in expediting recovery and restoring individuals to their optimal level of health and mobility. One on One Physical Therapy at Home: The singular advantage of one-on-one physical therapy care at home lies in the unparalleled personalized attention and focus it provides. In the home setting, individuals receive undivided attention from their physical therapist, enabling a tailored and precise approach to address their specific needs. This personalized care not only fosters a strong therapeutic relationship between the patient and therapist but also allows for a more thorough understanding of the patient's unique challenges and goals. The absence of distractions commonly found in clinical settings ensures that every session is dedicated solely to the individual's well-being, promoting a more efficient and effective rehabilitation process. This intimate and customized approach to care enhances patient engagement, encourages adherence to treatment plans, and ultimately contributes to improved outcomes in the comfort and familiarity of one's own home.
  • I’ve tried EVERYTHING, INCLUDING PT in the past! Why am I still struggling? Why would it work for me this time? And friends of mine who have tried PT say it's a waste of time!
We have to preface this by stating that not all therapists or companies are the same. There are therapists in clinics our there that bounce between 2 and 3 patients during your session. They may give you something to do or put you on heat or stimulation for ten or fifteen minutes and then come back to start the next thing. Our therapists believe that movement is medicine...we focus 100% of our time on observing you and giving you intensive exercises instead of rubber band work. Or we make sure we are going above and beyond with respect to working on your balance. Finally, we take all the time that is required to teach you about everything we are doing so that you can have full confidence that what you are doing in therapy has a scientifically proven reason. You just don't get that attention elsewhere. MORE INFO...CLICK HERE

  • Is Achieva Rehab a Home Health Agency?
No. The business is comprised of physical therapists in private practice, which is the same as those therapists working in outpatient therapy clinics, except that our therapists conduct treatment in patients’ homes, offices, or assisted living centers. You do not have to be considered "homebound" as you do when you are seen by a traditional home health agency...we follow the model of outpatient therapy except our place of service is your home.
  • What if my doctor doesn't give me options and tells me that I should go to XYZ physical therapy next door or across town?
Patients HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE the Physical Therapy provider they prefer. The patient simply needs to tell the physician or hospital staff that he/she has a Physical Therapy provider preference and the selection must be honored. It's your healthcare and it's always your choice.

Or, we can get that prescription for you by calling your doctor after we schedule your first session. it's a very easy process.
  • What happens during the first session for seniors in the in-home physical therapy program?
The therapist will arrive at the scheduled time discuss the following: Your medical history. Your current problems/complaints and specifically the things that you are missing out on in your life because of your problem. Pain intensity, what aggravates and eases the problem. How this is impacting your daily activities or your functional limitations. Your goals with physical therapy...what you want to get back to...playing with grandchildren, yardwork, walking with your spouse, dinner with friends etc. Medications, tests, and procedures related to your health. The therapist will then perform the objective evaluation which may include some of the following: Palpation – touching around the area of the pain/problem. This is done to check for the presence of tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperature, inflammation, etc. Range of Motion (ROM) – the therapist will move the joint(s) to check for the quality of movement and any restrictions. Muscle Testing – the therapist may check for strength and the quality of the muscle contraction. Pain and weakness may be noted. Often the muscle strength is graded. This is also part of a neurological screening. Neurological Screening – the therapist may check to see how the nerves are communicating with the muscles, sensing touch, pain, vibration, or temperature. Reflexes may be assessed as well. Special Tests – the therapist may perform special tests to give us data for comparison in subsequent visits to show that your pain, balance, strength etc. is improving. Posture Assessment – the positions of joints relative to ideal and each other may be assessed. The therapist will then formulate a list of problems you are having, and how to treat those problems. A plan is subsequently developed with the patient’s input. This includes how many times you should see the therapist per week, how many weeks you will need therapy, a very detailed teaching of home programs, patient education, short-term/long-term goals, and what is expected after discharge from therapy. This plan is created with input from you, your therapist, and your doctor. You will then schedule the next visit and call with any questions between the first and second visit.
